This past Saturday morning I spent a bit of time chatting it up with Christos Garkinos while downing a few cups of coffee (maybe 4) at the Four Seasons hotel. If you haven’t heard of Garkinos, you may be spending too much time on HBO’s mini series and not enough time on Bravo!
Christos Garkinos is one busy fellow! He is the Co-Owner of Decades, the super popular luxury consignment store that carries the most coveted pieces geared for the most discreet fashion crowd in LA. The one-of-a kind pieces include timeless classics such as CHANEL, Valentino and Hermès.
Garkinos is Bravo’s new darling for his haute docu-drama “Decades” with his partner Cameron Silver. Now, I hear (through a little birdie) another series may be under way. And if that’s not enough, Garkinos, recently launched a new moderately priced collection on HSN.com called eureka.
His extraordinary sense of style has led him to design vintage-inspired looks such as a Chanel-inspired little tweed-ish jacket, Sophia Loren-reminiscent peasant blouses, and other fashion-forward styles.—all priced from $59.50 to $119.90. You can find all of his pieces on HSN.com.
As Garkinos and I chatted, I found out a few interesting facts about his personal style, his most coveted item in his closet and yips on how to take the best photo.
Give us a little background on how you ventured from Detroit Michigan to Los Angeles California. That is such a huge transition.
I was always into clothing even when I was a little kid. I played with Barbies , but what was different for me was that my aunt designed and created bouclé Chanel jackets for my dolls. Right there, I knew I was destined to be in fashion. However, in between Detroit and LA, I worked in Marketing for Clorox, Disney and opened up a Virgin mega store in Chicago. But destiny found me with the opening of “Decades”, styling celebrities, having a show on Bravo and now a collection on HSN.com.
Wow! That is an amazing journey. So let me ask you; what is your most coveted item in your own closet?
My Tom Ford vintage suit.
Best Celebrity closet you personally edited for Decades?
Well, she is not a celebrity but a sociallite in the Upper East side of New York. We are still friends. Her closet was emense. I have never seen anything like it.
Two best selling brands that sell in Decades?
Chanel and Hermès.
You said you had a few tips on how to take the best photos?
Yes. Okay the first one is you count to three and than say the word “Thursday” while facing forward.
The second one came from the model/actressCarolyn Murphy. This one you look over your shoulder and say the word: “Heyyyyyy“.
Our version of Thursday…..
