Where do you receive inspiration from?
Inspiration for my collections stem from many different avenues. While sometimes I design based on what my own accessories collection is missing or what my clients request for special orders, other times I let the materials influence the designs. I also draw inspiration from my travels around the world and occasionally look to my Art History textbook archives from college for more well-informed designs.
What do you think the next BIG trend in jewelry is?
While I love, appreciate, and follow trends in fashion, I also know that women who understand and have identified their own style shop for accessories the way that they shop for clothing – if she loves something, if that something is flattering on her (yes, this is true of jewelry and accessories), and is in her price range, she will most likely purchase. I love designing pieces that speak to women throughout multiple walks of life. More meaningful than designing on trend, I look forward to creating pieces that are loved and appreciated by a diverse group of women.
What celebrity would you like to see your pieces on?
I love seeing MCD on celebrities and bloggers, and would be thrilled to see my designs on movers and shakers in the fashion industry like Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Rachel Zoe, Leandra Medine, and Aimee Song. I would also love to see MCD on other entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and business people who are changing the world (i.e. members of the Forbes list).
Have you been to Chicago? What is your favorite thing about Chi-town?
Yes, I have been to Chicago… and I LOVE it! Some of my favorite things about the city are the food, architecture, and friendliness of its residents. I cannot wait to go back to the Windy City as, I must say, it is one of my favorite cities next to San Francisco and Boston.
One thing that is always in your makeup bag?
One thing that is ALWAYS in my makeup bag is mascara. I take turns between Givenchy Phenomen’eyes, Doir Show, and Maybelline Volum’ Express.
